Singing In A Blizzard
If you’re in New York, and want to hear some beautiful singing to cheer yourself despite the weather this weekend, you could do worse than go listen to the boys of St. Paul’s Choir School from Cambridge Mass. They will be riding out the blizzard in what we hope will be a less snowy Big Apple. Here is the schedule:
• Mass at St. Ignatius Loyola at 5:30 on Saturday 9th.
• Mass at 12:00 and concert at 1:30 at St. Catherine of Sienna on Sunday 10th.
• A (short) concert at 4:00 in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Monday 11th.
My son is a graduate of the School, and I teach recorder there. It’s the only boys’ Catholic choir school in the U.S., and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year. Having been around the School for seven years now, I’m still thrilled every day to hear these boys sing. They’re conducted by John Robinson, the young and very able new Music Director, who came to “our” Cambridge from Canterbury Cathedral in the U.K. three years ago.
And here is a sample of the Choir chanting the Introit, Si Iniquitates. They, of course, do a wide variety of other music. If you’re Catholic and appreciate this, please don’t be jealous when I tell you the Choir chants a Latin Introit for the 11:00 Mass at St. Paul’s every appropriate Sunday during the school year.

I won’t say I’m sorry you’re not! An unblizzarded place trumps aesthetic experience anytime. I’m mentioning this for those who might be trapped in the City. Of course, “trapped” and “New York” are terms that play off each other in a variety of ways.

Talk about God putting you in the right place at the right time(again)… for both of you:0). We sing a bit of Latin at our Masses, TT- there are four of us and we sing a Capella. Spell ck said it needed to be capitalized…
May i go slightly O/T 2 share a book(sacred-ish)because i just finished it and i love it sooooooo much- it’s from a perspective i neverever even considered… anyway, ~The Welcoming Door~ made me cry and think deeply and love completely. By Kenny Kemp. Amazing.
I wish i could describe it- i’ll just say: it never occurred to me that Jeshua would use Parables to teach because he actually lived them… beautiful.

Oh- and this:
Feb 05 2013
Reminder: Sequester ‘Originated In The White House’
White House Operatives Are Hoping You’ll Forget That They Were Actually For The Sequester Before They Were Against It
PRESIDENT OBAMA: “Already, some in Congress are trying to undo these automatic spending cuts. My message to them is simple: No. I will veto any effort to get rid of those automatic spending cuts to domestic and defense spending. There will be no easy off ramps on this one. We need to keep the pressure up to compromise – not turn off the pressure.” (President Obama, Remarks, 11/21/11)
Because it’s me&… i gotta be.

Karen, holding Congress’ feet to the fire about getting the Federal government’s accounts back into something approaching balance seems like a good thing. But since President Obama is saying that he is in favor of it, I anticipate the Republicans in the House deciding that they are now unalterably opposed to it. (“unalterably” meaning until and unless the President comes out against it. At which point, look for them to suddenly return to demanding that it be done. Sigh.)

I would like to think that you are wrong in thinking/saying the Pubs are so contrary to the Dems. Or, vice-a versy(as Tigger would say). If i am understanding correctly- Obama was totally for the sequestration because of exactly what you say… until now, where is is agaisnt it… BECAUSE he has no freaking clue WTF he’s doing(IMhumbleO). NO budget since when? No comprehension as to the left and right hands’ location. It’s ridiculous.
CBS actually asked this question to a CEO of GM(or GE) an older businessman/gentleman: Do you think that a business approach would work in the gov’t as to getting our spending under control? WHAT???
Give me a break, Liberal media- after having a viable businessman- successful, i might add-running against the Chosen ONE.
Right.
NOW you wonder!!

Back to the music: Heavenly is the word, I think. There is a purity of tone that is produced only by a boy choir. Or, perhaps, by angels…
