Amazonian History
While catching up on my blog-reading, I ran across this Megan McArdle post suggesting readers look up their first order with Amazon. I ordered this book on November 10, 1997:
The order shipped January 22, 2000.

Mine was apparently School House Rock!: The Official Guide on June 4, 1999. I ordered 6 items from them that year, 2 of which were gifts. What an interesting thing to do!

It was fun to look back. My first order was actually for a half-dozen used books, and all but that one were shipped out the next day. I’m not sure about the details now, but it seems that, at that time, an order could be placed for an out-of-print book and they would send out a notice of interest to a bunch of used book stores, and those with a copy would respond with an offer to sell that Amazon would then forward.

Sign in to Amazon. Then click on the “Your Account” button in the upper right, then click on “Your Orders” button towards the top of the new screen. (That usually leads me to a sign-in screen again before the “Your Orders” page appears.) Once at the “Your Orders” page, look at the upper left of the screen where it says “Show,” click the arrow in the box there and cursor down to the year you are interested in.

Can we assume then that one of your characteristics is not being an “early adopter?” ;-) ( Honestly, until now, the idea that it was a game of some sort hadn’t occurred to me.)
