I’m so haunted by that young woman’s death, in this unsparing version. (The CNN version is bowdlerized, to protect her identity and delicate sensibilities.) You can see her life run out of her mouth and nose right in front of your eyes. She must have been shot in the aorta. And then her husband or lover or brother or friend screams. There’s something particularly terrible about a male scream.
Apparently she’s already become the symbol and martyr of the movement.
It’s a sad and bitter variation on the theme of the old men sending the young off to fight and defend the society. Now it’s young men AND women, and the old men themselves are killing them, to defend their own power.
Yes, haunting how life didn’t ebb so much as spurted out. Too bad CNN won’t run this version. Reminds me of MSM refusal to run videos of 9/11 plane hits not long after – cleansing reality for the masses. FWIW, her father is said to be the older gentleman who was begging her to “Open your eyes. Open your eyes.”“Neda, don’t be afraid. Neda, don’t be afraid. Neda, stay with me. Neda, stay with me!” Don’t know if it was him at the end.
Hope J, is ok now.

Omigod, was that her father screaming? The one I left out, and the most heartbreaking of all. This tweet:
ccollinsmith RT @theevilhour Khamene call himself the father of all orphans of Iran-Iraq war,but he made a father witness the death of his daughter #neda
What do you think about the “derangement” types who are screaming about Obama taking his daughters for ice cream today? If it had been Bush, they’d call it a touchingly all-American, protective thing to do — and the deranged lefties would be screaming. I unfollowed one of them. I couldn’t stand the Bush derangement people either.
There is an even more gruesome photo from a hospital. Pregnant woman shot – attempt to save late-term baby unsuccessful. Can see where bullet went through it. Too much 4 even me so I didn’t bother to bookmark much less fact check.
I’m as tired of the ODS people as I was about the BDS people and the CDS people before them. As far as Obama taking his daughters to ice cream, life does go on for all of us and I don’t want any other President caught in the trap Carter devised for himself. I personally would have preferred it not get press attention. Judging by his past experiences, I imagine Obama would too, but that is the unfortunate nature of press coverage these days — constant following, no privacy “in case something happens” and over-emphasis of titillating minutiae at the expense of covering actual hard news. (JMO, not alleging is fact)
Aside to Bruce: we’re trying to use categories at the top of posts to indicate who wrote them. Not always remembering to do so. At the moment, my byline says “ironin.” Still, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to continue signing the posts if not amba.
Aside to Amba: Can you change my category to “Randy”? Thanks.
That video had the same effect on me as the Nick Berg footage – shock along with slight nausea (I suppose there’s a word for that – horror). Watching someone actually die flips on a whole new set of circuits in me, dark fibre, as it were. Among other things, that makes me wonder how combat soldiers manage to function professionally after witnessing their buddies die. If I had to see that happen to friends in real life on anything like a regular basis, well, I suppose I’d do my best … but “post traumatic stress disorder” wouldn’t begin to cover the results.
The more I think about it, the more striking the impact of video (as opposed to words) seems. I don’t believe that there is any combination of words that would produce in me the same effect as that video.
Yeah, what Randy and Amba said on the ice cream thing. Fine for Obama to do, foolish and ridiculous for the press to cover it (did you see the mash-up some blog did of a reporter’s tweets, breathlessly covering the ice cream trip?). I don’t generally get perturbed about such things. I remember the deranged folks castigating Bush even for giving up golf while the war was going on, because, they said, giving up golf isn’t a real sacrifice…. Bush, of course, never actually claimed it was a sacrifice for him, just said that he didn’t think that the President should be playing golf in this particular time period.
Frankly, what father wouldn’t want, after seeing this gruesome video, to run out and do something fun and light-hearted with his daughters, to cherish them while he can, either before tragedy strikes or they grow up and lose interest in ice cream trips with Dad.
